Ronald Koeman latest: Agent denies deal between Southampton and Everton has been agreed

Saints coach has held talks with Toffees, but agent claims he was misquoted over reports a deal has been agreed

Southampton manager Ronald Koeman has not agreed any deal yet to take over as Everton manager, his agent has confirmed.

Reports on Friday and Saturday had suggested that the Dutchman had come to an agreement with the Merseyside club, with Rob Jansen quoted by Voetbal International as saying: "We have reached an aggrement with Everton, Now it is up to the clubs."

Later on Saturday, however, Jansen claimed he had been misquoted, and that talks between the Premier League sides remained ongoing over Koeman, who has a year remaining on his present contract.

"That's really not the case," Jansen said regarding any deal being completed. "First, the clubs must have agreed. Then we get back into action. I can not say whether his brother Erwin will go along as an assistant. That's all still premature now. Let's just quietly wait if the clubs come to an agreement."

Koeman moved to St Mary's in 2014 to replace Mauricio Pochettino, and led the club to a seventh place finish and qualification for the Europa League.

The club improved on their position again last season, ending the campaign in sixth position after a run of 12 wins in their final 18 games, qualifying again for the Europa League.

He was linked with the Swansea job earlier this year before the appoinment of Francesco Guidolin.

Should Koeman take over at Everton, Southampton could target Bournemouth manager Eddie Howe or Unai Emery, reports the Sunday Telegraph.

Several players could also be on the move, with Southampton supporters having already had to endure consecutive summers of high-profile departures.

Victor Wanyama, Graziano Pelle and Shane Long have all been linked with potential departures, along with Jordy Clasie and Sadio Mane.

The Everton position has been vacant since the sacking of Roberto Martinez last month.

Manuel Pellegrini, Frank de Boer and Emery had all been linked with the Goodison Park role, with the club recently having been taken over by Iranian investor Farhad Moshiri.
