A father and son in the south of India have been arrested for allegedly repeatedly raping a 14-year-old girl over a six month period.

The girl, who was employed to do household work by the father, alleged she was repeatedly raped by the men from the day she started work at the house in Green Hills Colony in Hyderabad.

She alleged she was beaten up by the men and their family members when she attempted to resist the sexual assault, the Deccan Chronicle reported.

The father, Sudhakar Reddy, 60, and his son, Bharath Kumar Reddy, 30, both lawyers, reportedly absconded from police after the case was reported to authorities, News24onine reported. They have since been located and arrested.

The father’s eldest son, Tarak Ram Redddy, has also been charged with assaulting a neighbour. He had reportedly believed the neighbour had alerted activist groups to the alleged attacks which had led to the teenager leaving the house and reporting the case to police.

“I was sodomised by the father often and his son repeatedly raped me. When I tried to complain other members of the family beat me up,” the girl told Deccan Chronicle.

The teenager is reportedly pregnant and child rights activist group Balala Hakkula Sangham has reportedly called on authorities to allow the pregnancy to be terminated and for the government to sponsor her accommodation and education.
