John Oliver takes aim at ‘clown’ Boris Johnson on Last Week Tonight
Late night host also poked fun at Jacob Rees-Mogg
John Oliver took on the subject of Boris Johnson and the looming Brexit deadline in a brand new episode of HBO show Last Week Tonight.
The host went easier than usual on Donald Trump in favour of the UK’s Prime Minister following a “chaotic” week that saw him lose his first vote in parliament.
Describing Johnson, he said: “If you want to make one at home, the recipe is: ‘simply boil one clown’.”
Oliver showed the clip that heard an MP shout “Not a good start, Boris” following his first parliamentary defeat, exclaiming: “That’s actually savage.”
He also highlighted the picture of Jacob Rees-Mogg lying horizontally on the front bench during the debate that went viral in the aftermath.
Oliver described it as “a look you would expect from someone who just masturbated in a hammock.”
Protesters take to streets after Boris Johnson suspends parliament
Show all 11This isn’t the first time Johnson has been targeted by Oliver. Five days after Johnson was announced as Theresa May’s replacement, Oliver said: “Unfortunately, the UK is about to be completely f***ed.”
The host accused the political figure of “carefully calculating” his “bumbling Brit” persona and combatted headlines calling Johnson the “British Trump” as false because he’s “more complex” than the US president.
