General Vladimir Nikitin, deputy commander of the strategic rocket forces at the Plesetsk launch site in northern Russia. The site has had its electricity restored after being cut off over the weekend for non-payment of a 72.6bn rouble bill.

A bad day for:

Flying sheep: Five dead sheep, spotted 100ft up pine trees in New Zealand, baffled the authorities for some time until they discovered that the carcasses were being transported by air when the strap broke. "Unfortunately, as they started decomposing, they started coming back to earth," an official explained.
