Boris Johnson is betraying EU nationals by refusing to enshrine their rights in law post-Brexit

This week Boris Johnson made a promise in the House of Commons that EU nationals will have the right to stay in the UK whatever the outcome of negotiations with the EU. It is bizarre that he refuses to enshrine this in UK law.

Verbal promises will not cut the mustard for EU nationals living in the UK as they enable the government to change its mind.

Promises were made previously thanks to the work of Conservative MP Alberto Costa to ringfence the rights of EU nationals in the event of a no-deal Brexit.

Spain has already passed legislation that British citizens can stay post-Brexit, even in the event of no deal, however, this is contingent on the UK doing the same for Spanish citizens.

The government is already showing it cannot be trusted when it comes to citizens’ rights and it needs to pass legislation immediately to put this issue to bed.

A hard-right, hard-Brexit-supporting faction has managed to take over the country without the support or involvement of either parliament or the voters and with talk of closing down parliament if MPs, who are supposed to represent us, dare to stand in its way.

This amounts to a coup d’état. It must be stopped.

The right wing’s favourite fogey Jacob Rees-Mogg has issued a style guide requiring his staff to use imperial measurements.

Assuming that he follows his own diktat, he will find it considerably difficult, and maybe impossible, to buy food, buy petrol, buy light bulbs, buy or use any electrical equipment or buy or use any DIY equipment or materials.

Then again, he probably gets his nanny to do these for him anyway.

Trump, Sweden and A$AP Rocky

Donald Trump tried to influence the Swedish judicial process by calling for the release of a US national arrested for assault because “we do so much for Sweden”.

Will he now be asking the Italian president to free the two US citizens accused of knifing a police officer to death in Rome because “we do so much for Italy”?

Donald Trump’s attacks

I wish to express my solidarity with US congressman Elijah Cummings after what I view as an unbelievably vicious racist attack directed at him by the disgraced president of the United States, Donald Trump.

Apparently, this race-baiting president was incensed at congressman Cummings’ display of emotion in the face of the Trump administration’s abuse of children and cruelty to asylum seekers at the southern border of the United States.

The sooner this lawless, racist, lying, environment-trashing, disrespectful president is impeached and out of office the better for the US and the rest of the world.
