Sir: Frustrated British citizens have, once again, been appalled by the escalating violence caused by the Northern Ireland marching season. The Prime Minister must tell the Protestant MPs that to be a citizen of the United Kingdom confers rights and obligations. One of these obligations is that we do not tolerate the intimidation of minority groups within our society.

We must insist that the Orange Order stops its annual marching. If they refuse, then, when we have this new referendum for the single currency, we should add another question: Do you want Northern Ireland to be a part of the United Kingdom? If the answer is "no", then we should hand over the government of Northern Ireland to the United Nations and the EU, as clearly a large section of their society do not want to live under our British law.
