Letter: Road scheme is round the bend

IN HIS statement concerning the A5 Snowdonia Padog Bends, the Minister of State at the Welsh Office, Sir Wyn Roberts has been given out-of-date accident statistics. He says: 'The improvement is necessary because there were 25 accidents on the stretch between 1987 and 1991.'

These figures were before the Conwy Tunnel was opened by the Queen in October 1991. Since then traffic on the A5 has dropped so dramatically that only two accidents, one classed as serious, one slight, have occurred at the Padog Bends.

On these figures, can the expenditure of pounds 5.6m (1990 figures) be justified on a 1.5 mile section of road?
