Letter: Price of peace

Sir: So the Government is to spend hundreds of millions of pounds of taxpayers' money paying for bomb damage inflicted mainly by the IRA ('Government shares bomb insurance', 22 December).

May I suggest that a more imaginative and, in the long term, more cost-effective method of preventing damage to businesses would be to spend the money on a real peace process.

It would also have what the insurance lobby might regard as only a fringe benefit, namely stopping the loss of life.

Yours faithfully,

RICHARD BLACK
