Letter: Militant Islam

Sir: Your Middle East editor writes (6 March): 'It is certainly in Israel's interest to show that after the collapse of Communism, militant Islam has emerged as the ideological enemy of the free world.'

Why does he suggest that this is only of concern to Israel? Is it not true for all the free world, and much of the non-free world, too? Can anyone think of a single greater threat to the individual freedom of millions and to the stability of nation states than the spreading of militant Islam?
