Peter Wilby writes about the view of Albania from Corfu ('See Albania . . . and thank God you're British', 22 August). He might also like to consider what Corfu looks like from Albania. No longer can Albanians gaze smugly at Corfu and think 'there but for the grace of God . . .' Now they too must tolerate hoards of vulgar tourists gobbling up scarce foods and making rude comments about their lifestyle and appearance. This is the result of a desire to appear open- handed and give visas to almost anyone, including hostile journalists.

Albania is intending to develop its coastline, but having seen the rape of Corfu has wisely decided to look towards the up-market type of traveller as opposed to mass tourism.
