Naturist San Franciscans may be forced to cover up, after the city's Board of Supervisors voted to ban public displays of genitalia.

The Board voted 6-5 in favour of new legislation that would rid the famously free-and-easy city of wandering nudists.

Some beaches will be exempt, as will events like Pride Parade.

The aptly named city Supervisor, Scott Weiner, said: "This legislation is really about genitals. I'm not looking to get anyone arrested because they are showing a plumber's crack or wearing a bikini."

If the ban passes a second vote, those caught short clothing-wise will face a $100 fine.
