From Dr Martin Ceadel

Sir: I do not know what you mean by "Many courses are narrowly conceived: for example, the mix of disciplines in Oxford's famous Philosophy, Politics and Economics course looks inflexible by today's standards" ("The price of an Oxbridge degree", 13 June). Since PPE currently offers 65 finals options, plus the chance of writing a thesis on a topic of your choice, "narrow" does not seem the right word. And since each component subject has recently made significant syllabus changes, "inflexible" does not seem appropriate either.

Yours faithfully,

MARTIN CEADEL
