Mood

Mood

"The Caribbean in the Mediterranean" is what its creators envisaged. A complex of whitewashed bungalows and low-rise hotels scattered around 60 acres of luxuriant banana trees, hibiscus and other sub-tropical shrubs under a shady canopy of pine and palm trees.

Accommodation

There's a choice of six hotels on the site, but the best bet for families are the Forte Hotel Village Bungalows. You get your own whitewashed apartment, which comes complete with a terrace and a patch of garden, but you also get the same service as if you were in a hotel.

Refuelling

A choice of 15 restaurants, some (but not all) to which you have free access as part of a half-board deal. Most popular with children, is Buffalo Bill, with special kids' menus and low-level tables and chairs.

Beach

>Brick paths twist through the resort, leading down to a long beach that shelves gently into the sea.

Activities

Numerous swimming pools, some with waterslides. The full gamut of water sports, plus tennis and putting. There is also a daily children's club, a miniature zoo and an adventure playground.

Out and About

The ethos tends to be to keep guests on site. However, if you do escape, there are spectacular Roman ruins on the nearby Nora headland. Within an hour, you can drive to the Giara de Gesturi swamps to look for moufflons and the wild ponies that gallop through the shallows.

Sample Prices

Seven nights half-board with Magic of Italy (0181-533 8888) costs £829 per person for four people in a two-bedroom apartment (50 per cent reduction for children).

Address

Forte Village Resort, 09010 S, Margherita di Pula, Cagliari, Italy. From the UK, call: (freephone) 0800 317 0066.
