Train gain

London to Brighton for 50p each way – is this the bargain of the summer? Tomorrow, 26 May, you can get 90 per cent off Advance tickets on Southern Railway, the train operator that links London with Surrey, Sussex and Hampshire, so you will typically pay 50p-£1.50 for trips to destinations such as Gatwick, Hastings (above) and Southampton. Book as many trips as you like for up to 12 weeks ahead (to 18 August) at www.southernrailway.com.

Authentic Egypt

Already explored Luxor and snorkelled in Sharm el Sheikh? Then the lesser-visited Egyptian town of El Quseir might be the next port of call. Experience quiet beaches, bustling bazaars and coral reefs in this Red Sea resort. A week's stay at the five-star Radisson Blu Hotel is £349 per person with Longwood Holidays. It includes half board and Thomson flights departing from Gatwick to Marsa Alam on 8 June. www.longwoodholidays.co.uk

No-frills Mallorca

If it's a simple combination of sun and sea that appeals, Jet2 Holidays has a deal that might tempt. A week-long self-catering stay at the Bellevue Club in north-eastern Mallorca is being offered for £229 per person. Transfers and return Jet2 flights from Manchester are included, departing 2 June. Based near the tourist resort of Alcudia, the hotel benefits from a range of nearby cafés, restaurants and beaches. www.jet2holidays.com
