The National Geographic Society has announced its Unique Lodges of the World, its newest collection of world-class travel experiences.
24 properties across six continents have been chosen to feature in a selection of places around the world that excel in a commitment to sustainability, authenticity and excellence. They range from thatched bungalows nestled in the coastal jungles of Costa Rica’s Osa Peninsula to luxury tented suites overlooking Ayers Rock in the Australian Outback.
Each lodge has been recommended for their outstanding guest performance while maintaining the area’s cultural and natural heritage and embracing sustainable tourism.
National Geographic said that many of the properties have come up with their own renewable energy solutions, and that all contribute back to the community by prioritising locally-sourced food.

Lynn Cutter, National Geographic’s executive vice president for Travel and Licensing, said: “The National Geographic brand is universally recognized for its commitment to exploring and protecting the planet, so we are uniquely positioned to unite and promote these exceptional properties and to set a new standard for tourism.
“These lodges share the Society’s vision of preserving the planet for future generations and they demonstrate that sustainability and a world-class guest experience can go hand-in-hand.”
The National Geographic plans to launch a promotional campaign to raise the profile of the properties. Travellers can see all of the properties on the Unique Lodges website and make a reservation.
