Weekly video game releases: 'Modern Warfare 2', 'SpongeBob Truth or Square', 'PES 2010 (Wii)', 'We Sing'

A selection of video game releases for the week beginning November 9, is dominated by the new Call Of Duty game , Modern Warfare 2, with showings from Spongebob Squarepants on his 10 year anniversary, Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 on the Wii, and karaoke game We Sing.

Modern Warfare 2 (360 PC PS3)
Release: November 10, worldwide.
The most anticipated multi-platform videogame of 2009 is being released internationally on November 10 in a variety of software and hardware bundles, ranging from $29.99 / €39.99 right through to $399.99 / €329.99, and as such seems to have dissuaded most other publishers from releasing major titles this week.
  The Standard Edition is the game and manual only, on Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3, while other editions are just for 360 of PS3. The Hardened Edition is the Standard Edition in a special tin case, with both an artbook and a voucher enabling the complimentary download of 2003's Call Of Duty, the first in the franchise. The Veteran Edition is exclusive to EBGames in the USA and GAME in the UK, and comprises the Hardened Edition plus a 12" / 30 cm statue of the game's main character. Finally, the Prestige Edition justifies its cost by taking the Hardened Edition and adding a working pair of night vision goggles to it. There are even companion versions being released on DS and Wii, and a new Modern Warfare 2 Xbox console bundle, so no one (unless they are younger than the game's Mature / 18 age rating) should feel left out.

Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 (Wii)
Release: November 10, North America. November 20, Europe.
Pro Evolution Soccer is, in the main, one of those sports franchises that implements a new selection of incremental improvements with each yearly release. On the Wii, however, it's been causing a bit of a flap since its introduction in 2008 by cleverly making use of the Wii's remote and encouraging players to think about their team as a cohesive, moving whole -- almost shoal-like -- rather than as a disparate collection of individuals, and as such the PES series games on Wii certainly bears further investigation for those burnt out by standard footballing fare.

SpongeBob's Truth or Square (360 DS PSP Wii)
Release: November 13, Europe.
This, apart from Modern Warfare 2, is perhaps the week's only other major multi-platform release, and is at least one with a more inclusive age rating. Mischevious Nickelodeon cartoon hero SpongeBob Squarepants returns to consoles. Game publisher THQ have promised that in wishing a happy 10th birthday to the yellow sea sponge himself, the action and antics of Truth Or Square will reference some of the funniest and best moments in SpongeBob history.

We Sing (Wii)
Release: November 13, Europe.
We Sing is, like the previous week's Wii-only U-Sing, a game designed to capitalize on the popularity of both the Nintendo Wii and karaoke games. Song choices are intended to appeal to a family audience, with 30 tracks from artists as diverse as Tom Jones, Duran Duran, Blondie, The Spice Girls, Coldplay and Timbaland. There are various party mode games and though one of the retail units comes with two microphones, the game is compatible with the Logitech USB Microphones used in other music games such as the Guitar Hero and Rock Band series.
