Spike TV Announces 2009 Video Game Award winners

Jake Gyllenhaal presented the Best Video Game of the Year award to Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, at Spike TV's 7th annual Video Game Awards Show, Saturday, December 12.

A division of MTV Networks, Spike TV is available in more than 98 million homes in the US and the show could be seen in more than 180 countries worldwide. The VGA show pays tribute to outstanding artistic and technical achievements in videogame design, technology, music, and performances.

Besides Green Day, actor Jack Black, and Snoop Dogg, Stevie Wonder performed to a standing ovation, and gave The Beatles: Rock Band the prize as Best Music Game of 2009. Wonder requested that the industry create video games for people with disabilities.

Presenters included Zachary Quinto ( Star Trek), who announced he will lend his voice to the multiplayer game Star Trek Online. Gyllenhaal also promoted the game of his upcoming action movie Prince of Persia due next summer and played a sneak peek.

There were a total of 12 world premieres featured including the anticipated Halo: Reach, Tron, Medal of Honor, Crackdown 2, UFC 2010 Undisputed, Spec Ops: The Line, Green Day: Rock Band, Deadliest Warrior, True Crime and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II, available for previewing at http://www.spike.com/event/vga2009

X-Men Origins: Wolverine won Best Cast and Best Performance by a Human Male (Hugh Jackman) and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 took Best Shooter and Multi-Player Game. Other awards include the following:

Best Performance by a Human Female - Megan Fox ( Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen)

Best Voice - Jack Black as Eddie Riggs ( Brutal Legend)
Best Downloadable Game - Shadow Complex
Best Comedy Game - Eat Lead: The Return of Matt Hazard
Most Anticipated Game - God of War III
