Sony Ericsson is putting the final touches on a new flagship device and range of socially-connected mobile phones set to be released within the first half of 2010.

On November 3 Sony Ericsson revealed their flagship device named the XPERIA X10. It is the first Sony Ericsson device to feature Google's Android OS. The XPERIA X10 will be the headlining device for Sony Ericsson's latest mobile phone range.

"The XPERIA TM X10 and the family of phones launching in the first half of 2010 underpin our commitment to an open and multi-platform strategy that maximises choice for the consumer and delivers the best possible consumer experience. The reaction from our global operator partners to the XPERIA X10 has been extremely positive and we will be rolling out across the world including Japan from the first half of 2010," said Bert Nordberg, President, Sony Ericsson.

The XPERIA X10 will feature Sony Ericsson's newly-released UX (user experience) platform, signature applications, social media services and Sony Ericsson's newly developed "intelligence capabilities."

The phone makes posting photos to social networks and microblogging sites easy with integrated applications, an 8.1 megapixel camera, photo and video uploading to the web, intelligent face recognition and smile detection features and the ability to geotag your photos.

Users will also be able to browse the web, record audio notes, send text messages, picture messages and emails, and interact with their device using the 4" scratch resistant touchscreen. Compatible applications will be available for download from the Android Marketplace and Sony's PlayNow store.

The XPERIA X10 will be available in selected markets during the first quarter of 2010 while other XPERIA-based Sony Ericsson handsets are expected to be released in the first half of 2010. Sony Ericsson was not available for comment on pricing information or exact release dates.
