Call of Duty: Next game set in space in the 'very far future,' rumours say

They've already done World War 2, Vietnam and the near future, and now the Call of Duty series could be tackling a new frontier - space.

The rumour is far from confirmed, but it comes courtesy of Shinobi, a member of the NeoGAF gaming forum and known games industry leaker. Shinobi's claim has also apparently been backed up by sources who spoke to Eurogamer.

Succinctly describing the next game, Shinobi said it will be set in the "very far future," will feature "space combat," and will basically be "full on sci-fi."

Shinobi also said the new game would make Black Ops 3, which is set in 2065, "feel like the Stone Age."

The Call of Duty franchise has dabbled with space before, notably in 2013's Call of Duty: Ghosts, which featured a mission set aboard a militarised space station. Recent titles have also been set a few decades from the present day, but fully space-based shooter set in the distant future would be a first.

We don't know much about the game, apart from that it's being developed by Infinity Ward and is expected to launch in November this year.
