On the fifth day of racing on the Sabbath the horses decided to rest. At Yarmouth only 40 runners turn out from a total entry of 94, with four events pulling in only five runners. At Ayr, the featured Tennent Trophy has attracted just four runners.

It is the first Sunday when the sport is not being covered by terrestial television, although the BBC will be showing a recording of the Irish Oaks in Sunday Grandstand.

Yarmouth's clerk of the course, David Henson, said: "With decent prize- money I would have thought we might have attracted more runners."

Richard Edmondson's Sunday Nap: Mandarina (Yarmouth 4.00). NB: Highflying (Ayr 3.15).
