Sports Letter: Quiet please! I'm watchings
Sir: I would like to appeal for TV cricket commentators to talk less and to commentate more. The great advantage of TV viewing is the more intimate attachment to the actual play and that benefit can be further enhanced by informed and intelligent commentary on what is happening rather than the infliction on the viewer of trite expressions of personal experience and opinion. Periods of silence in the context of TV sport viewing can indeed be golden.
