KAPIL DEV, the highest wicket-taker in history, has been dropped from the Indian team for the six-nation Australasia Cup in Sharjah later this month. Kapil Dev wrote to the Board of Control asking for a break to rest his injured shoulder. Manoj Prabhakar, who injured his heel on the New Zealand tour, arrives in Birmingham tomorrow for the fitness test which will determine whether he will play for Warwickshire. If he fails, they are likely to sign Brian Lara, of the West Indies.

SURREY made a record profit of pounds 260,995 in 1993 - an 18 per cent increase on the previous year - despite spending pounds 306,075 on ground maintenance and safety work at The Oval.
