Sport: TV highlights

THE LAST 16 days will flash before our eyes like a runaway train on Olympic Grandstand today when the BBC show the highlights from Barcelona, writes Paul Trow.

Struggling to fill the void will be cricket's NatWest Trophy semi- finals on Wednesday and cycling's Kellogg's Tour of Britain (half an hour nightly on Channel 4).

There is also the final act of the Test series between England and Pakistan today and tomorrow. ITV kick off the football season next Sunday, with two First Division matches as an antidote to BSkyB and the Premier League.

The week's main sporting event, the US PGA golf championship in St Louis, receives only limited exposure on the BBC next weekend and live coverage of the first two days (Thursday and Friday) will be on Screensport only.
