JIM COURIER, the world No 1 from the United States, was beaten 6-4, 6-3 by Sweden's Henrik Holm in yesterday's third round of the Stockholm Open. Holm is now ranked No 23 after reaching the semi-finals in Sydney and the final in Tokyo early this month. 'Those results meant a lot for my confidence,' he said. 'This was a great victory, beating the world's top-ranked player in my home town.' Courier was playing only his second ATP Tour match since losing in the US Open semi-finals six weeks ago.

JAKOB HLASEK, forced to retire with back trouble from his second-round clash against Henrik Holm at the Swedish Open, is confident he will be fit for the Davis Cup final against the United States in Texas at the start of December.
