NICK FALDO'S victory in the GA European Open at Sunningdale last weekend gave him a points record in the Sony Rankings. Faldo now has a points average of 22.74, shattering the previous best of 21.75 held by Seve Ballesteros. The Englishman's six-point lead over second- placed Fred Couples at the top of the rankings is another record.

GREG NORMAN, of Australia, won his first PGA Tour event in 28 months when he recovered from a late collapse to win the Canadian Open in a play-off against the American, Bruce Lietzke, in Oakville, Ontario. Norman surrendered a five-shot advantage over the final five holes, forcing a play-off only by sinking a three-yard birdie putt at the final regulation hole to tie with Lietzke with an eight-under-par score of 280.
