THE second day of the Australian tourists' three-day match against the Sri Lanka Board President's XI in Kandy yesterday was restricted by rain to 29 overs. The Australians declared at their overnight total of 278 for 9 and the Sri Lankans finished on 71 for 1. The first one-day international is on Saturday and the first Test begins next Monday.

IJAZ AHMED, a medium-pace all- rounder, is flying to England to replace Naveed Anjum in the Pakistan squad for the three remaining one-day internationals this summer. The first is at Trent Bridge on 20 August.

PAKISTAN will visit New Zealand from 26 December to 6 January, playing one Test and three one-day internationals, prior to Australia's six-week tour of New Zealand, starting in February, which will include three Tests and five one-day internationals. Martin Crowe, confirmed as captain, will lead New Zealand on a two- Test tour of Zimbabwe and a three-Test tour of Sri Lanka in October.

JIMMY COOK, the former Somerset opener left out of South Africa's World Cup team, has been recalled to the squad to face India in the republic's first home Test series after 22 years of isolation. Kepler Wessels retains the captaincy for the four-Test series. The only non-white player is left-arm spinner Omar Henry.
