Ray Ashton, Bramley's player-coach, was yesterday suspended from playing for six weeks after being found guilty by a sub-committee of the Rugby Football League's board of directors of bringing the game into disrepute. Ashton verbally abused Peter Gilmore, the Workington referee, at the end of Bramley's 26-6 defeat in a Second Division game at Carlisle on 21 April.

Garry Schubert, Workington's Australian-born forward, has been appointed coach of Second Division Barrow.
