2.00: WALES usually sets a strong gallop and today's pilot, Jimmy Fortune, is likely to use this quality to stretch the stamina of Algunnaas. The latter is a progressive type - but all three of this colt's wins have been at 10 furlongs.

2.30: This could be close between Blue Gold and MICHELE MARIESCHI. The former, a colt from a good family, will appreciate this mile after a seven- furlong victory at Sandown six weeks ago. But the latter (named after an 18th century Italian artist) acquitted himself well when a respectable sixth in Listed company at Deauville a fortnight ago.

3.00: Bold Edge has won a Cork & Orrery and has been second in a July Cup. But he had no answer when DIKTAT burst past him in last year's Jersey Stakes. Diktat has looked even better this season and, though greatly suited by further, he can pass the test with the stands side rail to run up against.

EPSOM

3.05: Those runners in stalls nearest the stands rails are at the top of the camber in the Epsom straight and usually have the upper hand. BRECONGILL LAD, from stall 13, won with authority at Yarmouth on Sunday and can defy a 5lb rise in the handicap. Dancing Mystery, with a talented apprentice in the saddle, looks menacing from stall 12.

3.40: Blueprint drifted alarmingly in the betting at Newbury three weeks ago and duly ran below par. It seems best to rely instead on the ultra- tough YAVANA'S PACE.

4.10: KERALIA was given a kid-gloves' ride by Gary Stevens on this track last month, but will receive more robust treatment today from Kieren Fallon.

4.40: Fallon's mounts are priced at increasingly niggardly odds by the bookmakers, but it is hard to ignore the chance of KINNESCASH. This course and distance winner ran dismally at Bath last time. But that followed an 11-week break and he should now be spot-on.

3.20: This is best left to MINETTA, from a yard flying just now.
