PRIMO NEBIOLO CLEARED OF ABUSE OF OFFICE CHARGE

A court yesterday cleared Primo Nebiolo, the chairman of Italy's Olympic committee and world athletics boss, of charges of abuse of office relating to construction work at the 1990 football World Cup. Judge Guido Catenacci dismissed the case against 16 top sports officals on trial over the huge cost of converting Rome's Olympic Stadium to stage the 1990 World Cup final and other matches. The public prosecutor had accused the defendants of administering public money in a ''cavalier'' way.
