A Pick of the Day's Sporting Events SUNDAY / Cyclo-cross National Trophy Northallerton The National Trophy series is completed on Sunday at Northallerton, North Yorkshire, and most of the leading Britons compete. The format of this series allows a rider to count his or her best three performances. In the case of the tie, the decision goes to the rider with the highest score in Sunday's fourth and final round. In the men's senior series, Roger Hammond, Britain's leading amateur, has already won the trophy and he will be absent on Sunday, racing in Switzerland in preparation for next weekend's World championships there. Competition will be fierce, though, as contenders for the remaining medal places are members of Britain's senior team for the World event. All professionals, Steve Douce looks secure in second place and cannot be overhauled by Nick Craig in third, but a win by Gary Foord, presently in fourth, would place him second overall.

How to get there: Stone Cross Playing Fields, Northallerton, North Yorkshire. From the south, turn off A1 at the A168/A19 exit, signposted Teesside, and take A168 to Northallerton. Opening race for under-12s: 10am; juveniles: 11am; juniors: noon; veterans: 12.01pm; women: 12.02; International Senior Trophy: 2pm.
