Jorge Lorenzo won the French Grand Prix for the third time yesterday; the seven-time world champion Valentino Rossi beat Casey Stoner for second place.
Lorenzo, of Spain, surged from fourth on the grid to beat Rossi by nearly 10 seconds and regain the overall title lead from the defending champion, Stoner. Rossi and Stoner will retire at the end of the season. The Spaniard Dani Pedrosa finished fourth after starting from pole position.
