Lewis Hamilton storms wrestling ring and cross-body splashes opponent in front of thousands in Mexico

Hamilton took part in a Lucha Libre match ahead of this weekend's Mexican Grand Prix

Lewis Hamilton took a break from the hectic Formula 1 schedule ahead of the Mexico Grand Prix in the most bizarre fashion after the three-time world champion tried his hand at Lucha Libre wrestling.

Hamilton wrapped up a second consecutive title last weekend with victory in the United States Grand Prix, becoming only the second British driver to win three world championships and the first to retain it.

Having seen tensions boil over during the weekend with his Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg, Hamilton appeared keen to relief some tension ahead of this weekend’s return to Mexico by trying his hand at wrestling.

The 30-year-old jumped in into the ring with two Luchadores, Mephisto and Mistico, to play table football, be serenaded by a Mariachi band and eventually show off his skills between the ropes.

Hamilton took on Mistico – the 32-year-old named Luis Ignacio Urive Alvirde who featured in the WWE as Sin Cara – in the Arena Mexico, where he landed two kicks to the Mexicans mid-rift before landing a cross-body splash.

However, unfortunately for Hamilton, he could only get a two-count, but that didn’t stop his partner Mephisto raising him onto his shoulders and parading around the ring in celebration.

“Every day I am waking up and I'm like, 'I can't believe it. I'm a three times world champion,'' Hamilton said of his most recent success.

“I don't know when it's going to kick in but I'm definitely enjoying it. When people tell me three, I have them repeat it because it sounds really cool.”
