Great Britain had some rare success yesterday as Miles Maclagan captured his first major international title when he won the pounds 84,000 ATP Challenger event in Istanbul, Turkey.
The unseeded 20-year-old from Scotland overcame the Frenchman Frederic Vitoux 7-6, 5-7, 6-2 to earn prize money of around pounds 9,500.
Maclagan, who had never been beyond the second round of a Challenger event, needed two hours and 56 minutes to see off an opponent who had beaten another Briton, Tim Henman, 6-2, 6-2 in the semi-finals.
Maclagan's victory will boost his world ranking from 251 to around 100.
