Jennings' joy cut short

Ian Jennings' 26th-minute goal for Guildford made the former Falklands paratrooper the National League's all-time top goalscorer on 151 but it did little to stem Old Loughtonians' powerful performance in an exciting game which they went on to win 5-2 to stay top of the Premier League ahead of Reading on goal difference. Two goals from Nicky Thompson had seen the Old Boys on their way.

Reading's captain, Jon Wyatt, followed up his hat-trick against Surbiton on Saturday with two more against Teddington in a 4- 3 win to keep the pressure on Loughtonians. At Reading Mark Hoskin was ordered from the team bench for verbal abuse following injury to brother Howard.

Bob Crutchley's phenomenal goalscoring continued. A hat-trick on Saturday in Cannock's 5-1 win away to Barford Tigers made him the fifth player to reach the hundred mark.

Yesterday he went two better, scoring five times in Cannock's 9-1 thrashing of Surbiton to take his season's total to 20 in seven games and keep his club in third spot, one point ahead of Southgate. Surbiton's consolation came from Mashood Hussain, a Pakistan Under-21 midfield player who only arrived in this country on Thursday.

Southgate won 2-1 away at Hounslow on Saturday with Nigel D'Cruz, their latest signing from Surbiton, making his debut and yesterday they won 7-1 at home to Barford with Duncan Woods and Adrian Simons both scoring twice.
