ROUND-UP

Glamorgan set up a top-of-the table meeting with unbeaten Lancashire next week after a crushing 113-run Sunday League victory over Hampshire, who were left still searching for their first points in the competition.

Glamorgan's 238 for 2 was their highest total against Hampshire. All their batsmen made runs, Steve James leading the way with 87. Robin Smith marked his England recall by making seven as Hampshire slumped to 125.

Graham Gooch became the first batsmen to top 8,000 runs in Sunday League cricket as he inspired Essex to a 112-run victory over Nottinghamshire at Trent Bridge. Gooch powered to 55 off 37 balls in his side's total of 267 for 4, while Mark Waugh scored 89 in 91 deliveries.

Darren Cousins' three wickets had Nottinghamshire reeling at 71 for 8 before Andy Pick and Jon Wileman combined to save the home team's face with an unbeaten partnership of 84.

Skipper Alan Wells hit an unbeaten 70 as Sussex met their daunting target in a rain-affected game against Gloucestershire. Needing 167 in a match reduced to 21 overs, Wells plundered three sixes and six fours as he and Stephenson put on 84.

At Taunton, Yorkshire's attempt to stay on the heels of the leaders floundered when they fell to a three-wicket defeat against Somerset. Michael Bevan made 80 in their 213 before being run out, but an unbeaten 60 from Graham Rose clinched Somerset's second win of the season after they had been reduced to 120 for 5.

Angus Fraser's 5 for 32 could not help Middlesex as they were beaten by 24 runs by Derbyshire at Lord's. Fraser's haul restricted the visitors to 152, but Middlesex were bowled out for 124 despite a ninth-wicket partnership of 42 from John Emburey and Mark Feltham.
