Hunter classes at the Royal International Horse Show will begin at 6am on 10 July at Hickstead. The early start will enable exhibitors and their supporters to attend the pro-hunting Countryside Rally in London, which is due to begin at noon in Hyde Park.

Volvo are to end their sponsorship of the show jumping and dressage world cups at the end of next season. The dressage finals in Gothenburg on 2- 5 April 1998 and the show jumping finals in Helsinki on 16-19 April 1998 will be the company's last events.
