League clears Diskin of dangerous tackling

Leeds' Test hooker, Matt Diskin, has been cleared of a "chicken-wing" tackle in the stormy game against St Helens and will be available for the rematch between the two clubs. Diskin was charged with a tackle, which puts a strain on the joint of an opponent, as part of a clampdown on what has come to be recognised as a dangerous technique which has been creeping into the game.

He could have faced a four-match suspension, but a League disciplinary hearing last night found him not guilty. He is now able to play in this Friday's Super League game against the Catalan Dragons and the Challenge Cup tie against St Helens on 5 April.

The Hull KR centre, Chev Walker, could be out for three months after dislocating his shoulder in the defeat at Warrington on Sunday. Walker has been plagued by injury since returning to rugby league from Bath little more than a year ago, including a wrist problem which ruled him out for most of last season. Shaun Briscoe is also likely to miss this Sunday's game at home to Salford with the dead-leg that kept him out of the Warrington match.

Wakefield's new signing, Frank Winterstein, has arrived in the country and will train with his new team-mates for the first time this week. The Samoan international second-rower has been playing with the Australian club, Canterbury.

Trinity are waiting to hear today the results of the post-mortem on Leon Walker, their reserve player who died in their game against Celtic Crusaders in South Wales on Sunday.
