Huddersfield, already riding high in third in the Super League table, have made their first major signing for next season in St Helens' Lee Gilmour.

The Great Britain international, who will face the Giants in their Challenge Cup semi-final next month, has agreed a two-year contract at Huddersfield, where he expects to finish his career, one that has included highly-successful spells with Wigan, Bradford and Saints.

Leeds are also looking ahead by signing 19-year-old Wakefield prop Jay Pitts on a three-and-a-half year contract. He joins immediately, unlike other new signings Mike Coady and Kyle Amor, who have been loaned back to Doncaster and Whitehaven respectively for the rest of the season.

Widnes have released the forward Sam Thompson at his own request.
