Martial Arts: Olympic hopeful Jones crashes out
There was disappointment for Youth Olympic gold medallist in Taekwondo Jade Jones yesterday as the Welsh teenager was eliminated in the quarter-finals of the British Open in Manchester.
Jones, competing in the senior female 57kg competition, made her way past Spaniard Katia Calvar and Andrea Paoli of Lebanon before going down 6-5 to France's Stephanie Ollive in the last eight.
Having followed up her senior bronze medal at this year's European Championships by taking gold at the Youth Games in Singapore last month, the defeat was a setback for the 17-year-old from Flint, but Jones is determined to earn a place at the London Olympics in 2012.
"I could've beaten her so I'm a bit upset," Jones said. "I made a mistake. My game is attacking and going forward, but I started following her game."
