Basketball: Bullets struck by ricochet

Williams wants to play for England in March's Commonwealth Games and his stay with Brighton could be short if he does not obtain funding from England Basketball to keep him in this country. Williams said before last night's game: "I want to go and play in Europe so I'm only hanging around in England for the next couple of weeks unless I get funding to stay here. Birmingham wanted to keep me for the rest of the season, which is fair enough, but I needed to make more money. It's business."

The Bears trailed Bullets by a basket after each of the first three quarters, but hit a 12-3 run. Andrew Alleyne led Bears with 19 points while Steve Parillon joined Williams on 13.

The Bullets coped better 24 hours earlier by beating the defending BBL champions Chester Jets 94-91 at home. Dino Tanner scored 11 of Bullets' last 13 points.

Scottish Rocks' unbeaten six-game start to the BBL season ended with a 67-62 defeat in Glasgow against Sheffield Sharks, while Chester bounced back last night as Philip Gilbert scored 30 points on his home debut to defeat Guildford Heat 109-89.
