Liz Yelling, who led Britain to team silver at last month's European Cross-Country Championships, was again in fine form in Belgium yesterday. Paula Radcliffe's training partner scorched to a 20-second win, overhauling Belgium's national champion, Anja Smolders, to secure the Fortis Cup 5.5km race in Hannut in 19min 59sec.

Yelling has been a revelation since turning professional in November. Fifth in the European Championships was followed by third in December in the Great North Cross Country.

Julius Kibet, aged 20, led his Kenyan team-mates, Daniel Gachara, and Joel Sataiti, to a clean sweep of the medals in Saturday's Belfast International Cross-Country.

Esther Kiplagat scored a nine-second victory in her race over 4,800m in 17:16, beating the United States champion, Colleen De Reuck.
