West Bromwich Albion have completed the double signing of World Cup stars Cristian Gamboa and Jason Davidson.

Costa Rica international Gamboa arrives from Rosenborg and Australian Davidson from Dutch side Heracles.

Both are versatile defenders capable of playing in multiple positions.

Gamboa, who has signed a three-year deal at The Hawthorns, is primarily a right-back who can also play on the right of midfield.

The 24-year-old started in all five of Costa Rica's World Cup matches as the surprise package reached the quarter-finals where they eventually lost on penalties to the Netherlands.

West Brom boss Alan Irvine told the club's website: "Cristian is a player I was extremely impressed by during the World Cup.

"We faced stiff competition from other Premier League clubs for his services but we've managed to convince Cristian that West Bromwich Albion is the best club for him to join.

"Cristian is a quick, aggressive defender with good energy levels. He gets up and down the pitch really well and we believe he will continue to improve."

Davidson, 23, is a left back capable of playing in midfield who has signed a two-year deal at the club, with an option for a further year. He started all three of Australia's matches in Brazil.

Irvine added: "I’m delighted we’ve been able to complete a deal for Jason. He had a fantastic World Cup when he performed very well against three top teams.

"I spoke to Tim Cahill about Jason and he recommended him very, very highly both as a player and character. Tim sees him as a young player who will do extremely well in England and develop even further."
