Tottenham confirm the signing of Kevin Wimmer from Cologne
The Austrian defender is Spurs' first arrival of the summer
Tottenham have completed the signing of the Austrian centre-back Kevin Wimmer from Cologne for an undisclosed fee.
The 22-year-old, who has made one international appearance, has signed a five-year contract at White Hart Lane.
The defender moved to Germany from LASK Linz in 2012, and was a key part of Cologne's championship-winning 2013/14 Bundesliga II season, which earned the club promotion to the Bundesliga.
Wimmer has continued to establish himself in his first season in the German top flight, making 25 league appearances as Cologne finished 12th.
He told the Cologne club website: "Tottenham is a huge chance for me. Nonetheless, it won't be easy saying good bye to Cologne.
"I experienced wonderful moments here, such as the promotion and the Klassenerhalt (staying up).
"I want to thank the training staff, my teammates, and all those involved in the club for their extraordinary support."
Wimmer is Tottenham's first signing of the summer. The club are hoping to complete a deal for Burnley's right-back Kieron Trippier, although they are unlikely to secure his teammate Danny Ings, with the striker seemingly set on a move to Liverpool.
