Radamel Falcao to Chelsea: Colombian set to seal transfer after Copa America exit - despite woeful form

The striker seemed to carry his Manchester United form into the South American tournament

Radamel Falcao is now free to focus on completing his proposed transfer to Chelsea.

The striker, who spent a disappointing season on loan at Manchester United last season, has been in action at the Copa America but Colombia's quarter-final exit to Argentina means he is now free to seal the switch.

A season-long loan deal from his parent club Monaco is understood to have already been agreed but formalities must still be completed.

Falcao's form at the Copa America will be a concern.

In last night's defeat to Argentina, Falcao was forced to try and make an impact from the bench after controversially being dropped from the starting line-up by coach Jose Pekerman.

After coming on after 73 minutes, his only contribution during normal and extra-time was to pick up a yellow card. The 29-year-old did at least manage to score in the penalty shoot-out.

Colombia's exit ended a poor tournament for Falcao in which he failed to find the back of the net despite starting all three group games. He currently remains nowhere near the dominant form that made him one of the most feared forwards in the world between 2010 and 2013.

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is thought to be confident he can be the one to turn Falcao's fortunes around.
