Pedro to Manchester United: Barcelona winger rethinking move over Louis van Gaal’s management style

The Barcelona winger Pedro is rethinking a transfer to Manchester United over concerns about the abrasive management style of Louis van Gaal, according to reports.

The 28-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League over the summer, with the Old Trafford club emerging as the favourites to trigger his £21.3m release clause.

However, The Guardian reports that the Spain international, who has made over 300 appearances for the Catalan giants, is rethinking the move due to fears over how Van Gaal has treated Pedro’s international teammates Victor Valdes and David de Gea.

Valdes, who has been frozen out of first team proceedings by the Dutch disciplinarian, is reportedly a close friend of Pedro after the pair spent seven seasons together at the Nou Camp.

De Gea has also been shunned by the United manager, who omitted the goalkeeper from his squads for the first two fixtures of the season, claiming the 24-year-old is not mentally fit enough to play.

Pedro made the majority of his 35 La Liga appearances last season off the bench, and scored the winner in the UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla after coming on as an extra-time substitute.

However, he started as Barca succumbed to a shock 4-0 loss to Athletic Bilbao in the Spanish Super Cup on Friday.

Following that defeat, Barcelona manager Luis Enrique admitted that the player’s future at the club remains uncertain.

“We want him to stay, but it’s a difficult decision. Nothing has changed yet, but it will change,” Enrique said.

“Pedro is in a difficult situation. He’s a player who wants to stay but also wants more minutes. All the fans understand the Pedro situation.”
