Manchester United are to battle Real Madrid and Roma for free agent goalkeeper Sergio Romero, according to reports.

Current No 2 Victor Valdes is to be sold by Louis van Gaal after he refused to play for the reserves - Valdes hit back on social media - and the Argentinian is seen is a perfect replacement, according to the Manchester Evening News.

The 28-year-old left Sampdoria earlier this summer and impressed for the national team during the Copa America as the Albiceleste reached the final. He played in the World Cup final the previous summer in Brazil.

Real Madrid and Roma are also believed to be interested in the goalkeeper.

Romero is not seen as a replacement for David De Gea, should he join Real Madrid, but as a back-up.
