Brendan Rodgers has refused to give up in his chase to replace £75m striker Luis Suarez at Anfield.

The Liverpool manager said yesterday that he will look at the "top end" of the market until the very end of the window to find a new striker to join his squad.

So far only Rickie Lambert has arrived as reinforcements up top and he was signed before the sale of the Uruguayan star, who scored 31 Premier League goals for Liverpool last season.

Paris Saint-Germain's Edinson Cavani and Monaco's Radamel Falcao continue to be linked with a move to the club, although it would be a real coup if Liverpool were to pull off a deal for either player - PSG do not want to sell Cavani, though he is looking at his options, and Falcao is believed to want a move to Real Madrid.

“The money is there - and we will look to improve at the top end of the field until the very end of the window,” said Rodgers at his Friday press conference.

“It’s not easy to get a top level striker, no. But we have to keep looking. We certainly need something, because we haven’t brought in another striker so far, apart from Rickie Lambert.

“You just never know what will happen in that last week - the window will always throw up something. We will persevere, and the boys are working hard behind the scenes to see what information we can get on the availability of players.”

Cavani scored 25 goals for PSG last season but was often shunted out to the left to accommodate star man Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The Uruguayan has been reported to be unhappy playing second fiddle to the Swedish star, with Cavani's agent talking up an exit.

Real Madrid may not be able to afford a deal for Falcao and Liverpool would consider a year-long loan deal for the Colombian, who is desperate to leave Ligue 1.

Liverpool fans have been underwhelmed with recent speculation linking Samuel Eto'o to Anfield, while a deal for Loic Remy fell through because of a medical and speculation linking the club with Swansea striker Wilfried Bony has died down.
