Juventus’ chief executive has struck a confident note again while speaking about the Serie A club’s chances of signing Emre Can.

The Liverpool midfielder’s contract at Anfield expires at the end of the season and he is yet to put pen to paper on renewed terms despite lengthy negotiations.

Juventus have made no secret of their interest in Can over the last few months and chief executive Giuseppe Marotta has again said the Italian club, who are already in talks with the 23-year-old, will do all it can to sign him.

“Emre Can’s contract is expiring in the summer so you would expect that a club like ours have attention on him,” said Marotta.

“We have initiated contact but it does not mean it’s done. It will not be easy as Liverpool also want to renew his contract, without forgetting that there will be other clubs in for him. Our attempt is made with every effort possible.”

Elsewhere, Daniel Sturridge has been allowed to leave Anfield and move to West Bromwich Albion on loan, but that does not mean a replacement is due to arrive before Wednesday’s deadline.

Jürgen Klopp poured cold water on any suggestion of new arrivals yesterday, claiming: “In the long term we will do a lot [in the transfer market]. In the short term I don’t think a lot will happen.”

There is unlikely, therefore, to be any immediate replacement for Philippe Coutinho, who returned to Merseyside on Monday to say farewell to his former team-mates.

Coutinho was pictured with Alberto Moreno and Adam Lallana following reports in Spain that Barcelona’s new signing wanted to leave Liverpool with “good feelings”.
