Deadline Day: Arsenal Transfer News

Arsenal received 22 offers for Jack Wilshere after allowing him to leave the club on loan, with the England international choosing between Crystal Palace and Bournemouth, according to reports.

Wilshere was given approval from manager Arsene Wenger to leave the club on loan after the pair held talks over his future, with Wilshere currently out of the starting line-up due to the arrival of Granit Xhaka and Wenger’s preference to play Santi Cazorla in midfield.

Having asked for a loan move, Wilshere was given the green light to negotiate a move away from the club even though he sees his long-term future at the Emirates, leading to more than 20 clubs lodging official interest in the midfielder. Having rejected the chance to move abroad though, The Mirror reports that Wilshere is leaning towards a move to Palace rather than Bournemouth.

It’s claimed that 24-year-old Wilshere has already held talks with Palace manager Alan Pardew, and favours the move offer Bournemouth as it means he can remain in London with his family. Watford and West Bromwich Albion also made moves for Wislhere along with Italian side Roma and Spanish club Valencia, but Wilshere looks likely to choose Palace ahead of tonight’s 23:00 transfer deadline.

Another player likely to leave Arsenal is midfielder Serge Gnabry, with Bundesliga side Werder Bremen expecting to sign the 21-year-old after denying that they are holding talks with Bayern Munich over a loan move. Initial reports suggested on Tuesday that Bayern were looking to sign Gnabry and send him to Bremen on loan, but the club’s director of football, Frank Baumann, confirmed that they have held direct talks with Arsenal and were not in negotiations with Bayern.

"Serge Gnabry would like to play for us. Talks with Arsenal are going well,” Baumann said. "Bayern have no influence on a potential transfer. We've agreed terms with the player and we're confident that the transfer will go ahead.

"[Arsenal captain Per] Mertesacker told us a lot about Serge Gnabry. He is a big fan of the player.

"We have reached an agreement with Arsenal but nothing has been finalised as of yet. The transfer could be confirmed tomorrow morning."

With Gnabry out of contract next summer, Arsenal were keen to offer a new deal to the German, but have decided instead to sell him given that they already have Theo Walcott and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain available, while Aaron Ramsey has also been played on the right wing over the past two seasons.

Arsenal meanwhile replied to one fan on Twitter who promised to give £20 to every user that retweeted a post of his if the club signed Shkodran Mustafi. With the Germany defender unveiled as an Arsenal played on Tuesday evening, the club’s official Twitter account replied to @Danielfloyd1981 after he posted a tweet on 12 August claiming he would give away the money if the club completed the signing of Mustafi.

The reply included a video of Mustafi, with the 24-year-old saying “Hi, I hope you don’t regret the tweet”.

The club quickly posted a second tweet though adding “Don’t worry though, @Danielfloyd1981 – you’re not alone…” after finding similar tweets, and a third post said “@Danielfloyd1981 @johnmwhittle @LewisDavey1 It’s fine guys, we don’t expect you to actually do it! #GunnerShkodran”.
