Wanyama: Celtic must atone for final loss in derby

The Celtic midfielder Victor Wanyama is eager to quickly erase the memory of the club's Hampden Park cup final defeat to Kilmarnock, beginning with Sunday's Old Firm derby against Rangers.

Kilmarnock ended Celtic's treble ambitions last Sunday with a 1-0 win in the final of the Scottish League Cup, leaving Neil Lennon's side to focus on their attempts to win the Scottish Premier League and the Scottish Cup.

It appears only to be a matter of time before Celtic wrap up the SPL title; it could happen this weekend if Motherwell drop points at Killie and Celtic beat Rangers on Sunday.

Then Celtic's focus will turn to the Scottish Cup, where they will meet the winners of last night's tie between St Mirren and Hearts in the semi-final on 15 April.

Wanyama told the Celtic View: "I've learned a lot from this [the loss to Kilmarnock]. It was a very big game and a chance for me to win something. It was very important to me before the game and I was very disappointed at full-time when we lost.

"This meant a lot to me personally. Every player wants to win trophies and I was very excited about the thought of possibly doing that. We have to step up now and concentrate on our next game.

"Hopefully we will be back to our best and can continue our run in the league. We've all switched our minds to Sunday's game now and hopefully we can make up for the defeat against Rangers."
